3rd OCTOBER 2009

A test of endurance on the South Downs for Scouts and Guides of all ages

CLASS W

Best Time (Current Start) : Mill Hill in 10 hours 29 minutes, 2005, Pegasus

2008 Winners : Thrust - Itford in 10 hours - NEW RECORD

 NOTE:
This year will be the last time that Class W will be run. The winners in 2009 get to keep the trophy forever!

This class has no age restrictions – Female only teams.

Class W hike from BIGNOR HILL.  The winning team being the one that covers the furthest distance in 10 hours. At the expiration of the 10 hours, teams cannot proceed beyond the next checkpoint or service area.

The team must consist of three team members who hike the whole distance together.

IT IS EXPECTED THAT TEAMS WILL HAVE HAD SUITABLE TRAINING AND PREPARATION FOR THE HIKE, AND THAT ALL MEMBERS ARE PHYSICALLY FIT.

ALL team members must book in at ALL Checkpoints and  Service areas. Failure to do this will automatically disqualify the team.

Teams must also ensure that their Tally Card is presented and clipped at each Checkpoint and Service Area reached en-route. Failure to obtain a valid clip at a checkpoint or Service Area will result in the team having to back-track to obtain the clip, or automatic disqualification.

The winning team will be the one that completes the furthest distance. If two teams complete the same distance, the team arriving in the shortest time will win. This is a race event, and is not intended to be a map reading test. However, good map reading skills are essential in case of bad weather or an unexpected diversion (i.e. if you get lost!).

The winners will be presented with the Windmill trophy.

The team must comply with the rules regarding clothing and equipment at all times.

Teams may start from Bignor between 0800 and 1500 hours and have 12 hours from their start time to complete the hike (i.e. if the team passes through a checkpoint after the expiration of 9 hours and 59 minutes, they have 2 hours to reach the next checkpoint for their time there to count).
